Truth
Friday the juniors and seniors were let out of school early to prepare for a huge thing in our lives!
Then, we head to our location. This year's banquet was at the Pinocle Center in Hudsonville. We ate, listened to a comedian (who was also a ventriloquist and was pretty funny), and then danced. It was a really great time, and I won't bore you with tons of details.
Another fun time was the night after banquet, when my friends and I had a sleepover. We went straight to bed when we got home, but after we woke up, we made breakfast and played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle which is one of the best games ever (it's also for one of the best gaming systems ever, the Nintendo Gamecube). We had a great time.
Saturday, after my friends and I went home, I got the privilege of going to see the show Wicked for the second time. In case you don't know, Wicked is the story of the Witches of Oz, with the phrase "A Lot Happened Before Dorothy Dropped In" being a "motto" of the show. It's a great show if you haven't seen it, and I highly recommend listening to the music or seeing the show if it comes near you.
Something they discuss through part of the show is the idea of truth. It's something that I just want to touch on (I might come back to it later, but I don't want this post to get book long). In the show, the idea of truth isn't what is actually true, but what people want to hear. It's a sad fact to think about in Wicked because the main character is misunderstood so that everyone thinks she's evil. It's so unfair.
However, it happens in our own lives as well. There are times when I know that what I believe isn't true, but I just keep thinking things are like that anyway. I hate to admit it, but I think it's something that everyone goes through, even if it's not in extreme circumstances. This is a big thing, especially with politics.
Now, I know what you're thinking but hear me out. I don't particularly side with the republicans or the democrats, so just listen to me. There are a lot of things in the government when we just listen to things and believe them just because people say they are true. I think some people in our country and in our world would believe that the sun is solid or aliens are real just by people saying they are. I'm not going to say that these are stupid people, but they are just believing what others have told them to believe.
Maybe this is a bad way of describing it, but I'll probably come back to that in a later post. I promise it'll make sense in the future. So, what do you guys think about truth? Let me know!
Another quick thing before I leave. I'm going on a media fast until Thursday. So, this means that there will be no new posts until Thursday afternoon, when I'll be posting my reflections on the media fast and my and this country's addictions to the media.
Keep digging to find the real truth!

(for those of you who can't read this, it says "b-a-n-q-u-e-t". Yes, that is ASL.)
Banquet is our version of Prom at Holland Christian for a few reasons. 1. Prom is too suggestive (you know, teenagers having sex after prom...). 2. We actually eat food there (and it's pretty good). 3. We are just that cool.
We couldn't have asked for a prettier night as it was the first night in Holland this year that was decently warm. Everyone was fine in our dresses, and we didn't need winter coats (which probably could happen in Michigan). All of the juniors and seniors head to the park to take pictures.
