Endangered Species
Today, I've decided that I'm going to blog more. Since I don't know what yo blog about, I'm going to type up a poem that I wrote a little while ago. It's called Endangered Species.
Endangered Species
I am and artist
I don't shape clay
Or move brushes
Or cut paper
Or leave marks with a pencil
I'm not in any art classes
And I hate getting my hands dirty
Most of the time, anyway
In fact
If you gave me a brush
I wouldn't be able to convince you
That I can paint at all
(My painting would look abstract, like Picasso,
With my less-than-great painting skills)
But I am and artist
I'm part of the rare species
Of artist that many like to
Think they are
(It's actually more endangered
Of a species than it is rare.)
It's a type of artist that
Can not only make you feel insignificact
And also make you feel
Small
Small as the ants crawling on the sidewalk
Or BIG
BIG as a forest of White Oaks
Or shallow or humble or any
Number of adjectives in between
I can make you believe that
The great Rocky Mountains
Are actually the Misty Mountains
And the Appalachians their cousin the Iron Hills
I could show you the sheer power
Of a wave hitting the pier
Even if you've never seen it before
But I can't draw
I can convince you that
Stars
Are not just calls of floating gas
But towns hanging upside down
On an invisible string
Held up by the heavens
I can paint you a picture
Probing that Faires and Pirates
Vampires and Vampire Hunters
Ninjas and Ninja Turtles
Centaurs and Elves and Dwarves and Hobbits
All exist
And you would believe me
But I can't even hold a brush properly
Or mix paint
Or even put the colors between the right lines
Some artists sing
Some paint
And others build
But there's a world of artists
Who don't use color, line, balance, or chords
We are the artists who mold poetry
We string novels together
And make history seem unreal
Because "We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race."
A race that is so full of passion
Passion that woo's women
And passion that mourns loss
My king of art expressed that
And I love every
Form of Expression
Live.
Create.
Write.

The quote is from the movie "Dead Poets Society". It's a poem that I wrote about writing, as I feel it's something that a lot of people think they can do, but only a few people actually enjoy it and can do it for days at a time.
You'll have a great day whether you know it or not
