Lord of the Rings, Birthdays, and I Am Second
Alright, it's been a few days, so this'll just be a little bit longer of a post.
Friday: Starting at about 9:30 AM on friday, my friends and I started a huge journey. We were going to watch all three Lord of the Rings Extended Editions in one day. They are each 3.5-4 hours long, and it was going to be a full day. So, we started with the fellowship, and, while working on math projects and thank you cards, we trucked through the first 4 hours. After that, we buzzed down to the gas station closest to my house and picked up Subway footlongs for lunch. We showed on those while watching Two Towers and we continued with our projects. After the second movie we went down to Speedway for a slushie run, and we all got our fill of more sugar and caffeine. We started The Return of the King and kept working on our projects and our subs. I stayed in my pajamas all day, and it was one of the best 12 hours in my life. It was pure awesome. My friends decided that I would be a hobbit, and I agree, but I would really want to be a dwarf. I decided that they are my favorite race in LotR. We even talked about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I am so thankful to have two best friends who are always there for me and who love me. That was my God-sighting on Friday.
Saturday: It's a birthday tradition at my house for my dad to take the birthday child out for breakfast on the closet weekend to their birthday. Since my birthday is this coming friday (and we are buys next week) we went out for breakfast today. We went to DeBoers Bakery, a little bakery and restaurant in Holland on the way to the beach. My dad and I both love "corned beef hash", which is corned beef fried with little chunks of potatoes. You get some eggs on top, and some toast, and it's just delectable. After that, my Saturday was pretty boring. Until 5:30 rolled around -- I had a family birthday party then. My family came over and celebrated me turning 17. I got The Hobbit (finally!) and a cute new scarf that's blue and green. My grandma was going to give me the new TOMS that I wanted, but she ended up giving me a belt for herself instead. That was awkward -- ahahah. Then, when I was blowing out my candles, my 5 year old cousin James told my mom she was 100 years old. THAT was even funnier. Her reaction was hilarious, and we just love to laugh at the things the little guys says. This is the same guy that on christmas eve sang "And a vulture in a dead tree" instead of "And a partridge in a pear tree". I just love that little guy. I am so blessed by my family!
Today: Well, today, along with the going to church and doing homework, I got the privilege of our first Undivided meeting of the year. Undivided is a group of area high schoolers who sing in area churches. We had our first "performance" today at Haven CRC in Zeeland. The service in the middle was all about "I Am Second". We watched a clip from a head coach from the Colts who retired recently -- his name is Andy, I think. The pastor reminded us that what is the point of gaining the world if you lose yourself, and how we have to lose our life to truly gain it. It was such a good reminder, and it really hit home with me. It's a true blessing to be able to worship my God freely, and then to hear such a great reminder, it reminds me that am I loved and that I am called to love others as well.
In order to truly gain life, you must lose it~
