Be Unsatisfied
"If you do what you always do you'll get what you always got." Anthony Robbins. If I told you that you were going to be in the same spot (financially, medically, educationally, etc.) a year from now, five years from now, or ten years from now, many of you would be really unhappy with that. And yet, we're so afraid of change. We just keep doing what we always do, and we're unhappy when we get what we always got.
It's so tempting to live your life, always doing the same thing from day to day. It's comfortable. Who doesn't want to get up at the same time every morning, go to a job they love, come home, eat good food, relax, go to bed, and repeat the same cycle over and over, with breaks in the schedules for weekends and holidays? That sounds really nice to me (especially the sleep). But, if we keep going these same things, we're going to get the same thing out of life. And that's a scary thought.
Like I said, we're so afraid of change -- and I don't think that's a bad thing. I understand the fear of the unknown, and it's a scary thing. But when our fear gets in the way of us making progress, I think we are doing ourselves a serious disservice. Sure, it's scary to think that we'll be that odd one out, or we'll have no friends, or we'll loose or job or our house or whatever. But isn't the thought of being in the same place in our lives even on year later scarier?
I heard a chapel a few months ago by my pastor who told us to be unsatisfied with our lives. I feel like this message hits people in two ways: 1. of course we should be unsatisfied and try to change things, or 2. but, I like to be comfortable and when I look back on my life, and I want to feel alright.
I don't think either of those things are wrong, I really don't. But I don't think his point was that in seventy years, you should look back on your life and smile. Everyone wants that; they don't have to have lived their lives full of regrets and missed chances. I think what his point was that we can't just be comfortable doing our easy every day thing. We have to be willing to go change something, especially if we want that change to be noticeable.
The thought of being unsatisfied with your life is scary, like you don't want to ever feel comfortable if you say that. But I think being unsatisfied is important. If we stay satisfied with our life, then it's so easy to get into a comfortable swing of things that will eventually lead us down the path of normalcy. So, be unsatisfied with the things that bother you, and change them, so that you can be more of the person you want to be.
Being unsatisfied doesn't have to be scary. It just has to be slightly uncomfortable. So, just remember to push out of your comfort zone a bit.
