Senior Camp pt. 1: Four Sets of Two
Hello, and welcome back to "Measuring God." I'm really sorry at how long it's been, but I haven't had the time or the resources to update my blog since June (or whenever my last post was). Really sorry about that. I actually have a friend who has been nagging me all summer to update... SORRY HEATHER!
The first step was this past sunday-monday part of the weekend (beginning of the week? Whatever you call those two days). It was senior camp. Senior Camp is when almost all of the seniors from our school go to Timber Wolf Lake. We bond together as a class through many worship sessions, meals, and free time. It was a really powerful experience that we went through, and we really bonded as a class. It was really amazing to see the work that God did throughout the 36 hours we were there. I really learned a lot this weekend (or whatever), so I hope you enjoy hearing about it (you'll probably getting a few posts about it).
We heard four sets of two word phrases that we learned at senior camp: Taste and See; Salt and Light; Comfort or Courage; Telling or Practicing. These four phrases are things that everyone in the faith should learn how to do because they keep you living the faith that you believe. The first two come directly from the bible: taste and see so that you can be the salt and light. But the other two are things that I've always known, I've just never really done.
Comfort or Courage was huge at senior camp when we had a powerful time of forgiveness. You could either stay comfortable and not say anything, or be courageous by getting up in front of the whole class and either forgiving or asking forgiveness. It was a really powerful time where we learned just how much everyone judges each other, and how many things people mess up everyday. Not only was the message eminent in our forgiveness session, it's something that our teaches encouraged us to always think about. We can never share the gospel is we're going to stay in our comfort zones. We have to break the mold, be courageous, and tell people what we want or what we believe. This also ties in with telling or practicing. We can either just talk about the things that happened to us at senior camp (and other experiences that happen in our lives) or we can practice what we've learned at them. I think that it's an important message to pass on because of the power that it can bring. We can change the world with these four words, by affecting either a few people or an entire country.
I really think these are important ways to measure God in your life simply because this is how we live out His kingdom. It's important to always practice what you preach, and I think these four phrases can really start us on a path to doing that all the time.
Learning to practice what I preach,
Carly
